Curiously, none of the organisms in the class Archaeoglobi are sulfate-reducers, that is capable of reducing SO
42- to H
2S. However, one hyperthermophilic euryarchaeote,
Archaeoglobus, is a true sulfate reducer and forms a phylogenetically distinct lineage within the
Euryarchaeota.
